Peace House, His visit is being sponsored in collaboration with Peace House, the Kalamazoo Quaker/Catholic Worker project. Peace House works locally from two neighboring homes on the eastside of Kalamazoo, where they engage neighbors in community building. They have introduced children to gardening to teach sustainable living, nurturing and nutrition. They tutor children each night during the school year, and host a Reading Porch staffed with volunteer tutors during the summer. Bike clinics are held to teach kids repair skills which foster a sense of accomplishment and independence. A portion of the proceeds from Fr. Dear's visit will be used by Peace House to teach neighborhood children alternatives to violence so disagreements can be addressed in productive ways. Transformations is honored to partner with Peace House in this work. |
